Bogata Suma ("rich forest")
Bogata Šuma is established in 2009 to let us (the Scheltus family) live a natural life in the countryside of Croatia, and to inspire others to make natural choices.
We host camping guests in an edible landscape that slowly transforms into a polyculture nut orchard.
Bogata Suma now is a permaculture family homestead on the top of a hill in the forests of Croatia. We lead a simple, healthy, mostly self sufficient life as practical realists. We like to create a sustainable habitat by following nature's patterns.
You can find our permaculture designs on Barbara's page.
Originally we come from citylife in The Netherlands (Amsterdam and Leiden); in 2009 we moved to Croatia. Peter because he always dreamed of living in nature, Barbara because she wanted to live a permaculture live in self sufficiency.
We use permaculture principles to develop our terrain and our life. We care for the earth, for the people around us, for the future and we like to share our abundance.
Besides guests we also host volunteers (from all over the world) that want to learn about setting up a self sufficient permaculture homestead. What is permaculture, how do we apply permaculture in our lives and how can you use it in your life. You can see how we observed our land and our life, thought of solutions for our needs, put a design on paper and how this is implemented on the terrain and in our lives.
Most of them are interested in seeing permaculture being used, to compare our designs to reality, hear about our lessons learned. We like to show them easy ways to grow (part of) their food and how to use nature to help you live a healthier life. We aim to inspire people to think differently, more natural.
